It’s the start of the most beerific week of the year, San Diego Beer Week! It’s a weird year for sure and while we usually have about 20 events both in tasting rooms and out around San Diego, we decided to pare down our list a bit and give you a manageable and safe beer week Thorn event calendar.
Starting on Saturday, November 7th, we will be hosting or throwing eight events both in-person and virtual! If you have any questions about the following events, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more info!
Here’s the rundown:
Saturday 11/7 at 5 pm – Join us at West Coasts Smoke & Tap House in La Mesa on Saturday, November 7th at 5 pm as we kick-off San Diego Beer Week 2020!
Father Larry’s IIPA is brewed in honor of Larry Koger, co-owner of West Coast BBQ, man of the cloth, and craft beer superfan. Larry passed away in 2016 and was always a huge supporter of Thorn so every year we brew this beer to celebrate his life and the impact he had on the San Diego craft beer community.
This IIPA’s bright aroma of citrus zest and tropical fruits are backed by a synergy of deep, intense flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, mango, and guava with some pine and coriander notes on the back end.
8.1% ABV – Hops – Chinook, Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo
We will be releasing this beer in Thorn tasting rooms on Sunday, November 8th at 12 pm and for delivery starting Monday, 11/9.

Tuesday 11/10 6:30 pm – We’re putting together a 4×4 tasting extravaganza: four beers plus four cheeses. Expert cheese monger RobbyG will join Thorn’s Nikole Mathews to share fun facts about these fabulous finds.
Just purchase the cheese plate (that is perfect for two people) and the four-beer kit, then tune in to the live stream on the Thorn Brewing Facebook page at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, where we’ll talk about each of the four featured cheeses and why we love them with each different craft beer. You can ask questions via live chat and it’s always great fun.
IMPORTANT: Your cheese plate and beer tasting kit will be ready for pickup at Thorn Brewing Mission Hills (4026 Hawk Street) on Tuesday, November 10, between 12-6 pm only!
Delivery is available for those within 10 miles of Thorn Mission Hills. If you would like to take advantage of the delivery option, you must buy your ticket here, and then email Nikole@thorn.beer by Sunday, November 8, notifying her that you would like your pairing delivered and give your address.

Thursday 11/12 6:30 pm – On Thursday, November 12th, join us for a live virtual tasting of 12 Thorn beers!
This pairing is perfect for two or three people to share because you will get all 12 beers delivered and a live guided tasting on Facebook Live on Thursday, 11/12 at 6:30 pm for only $30!
You can take advantage of free delivery or pick up in the tasting room:
1. For the delivery option, it will be delivered the week of the event (Mon/Wed for local and South County, Thurs for North County) and must be purchased through Shopify.
2. For the pick-up option, you must email email@example.com and reserve a 12-pack to be picked up in the Barrio Logan tasting room starting on Monday, November 9th, during open hours. Then you can pay for the 12-pack when you pick it up.
If you live outside of our delivery zone, you can have the mixed 12-pack shipped to you for an additional fee.

Dickel Pickleback Ralph
7% ABV Pickle Sour aged in Dickel rye barrels.
Imperial gose with cucumber, sea salt, peppercorns, and Sorachi Ace hops with a rye whiskey kick.
Deep gold in color. Tart and briny cucumber flavors up front with a spicy peppery bite, and finishing with subtle dill from the use of Sorachi Ace hops.

Also On Friday 11/13 at 6 pm we have an event at the Regal Beagle called Freaky Friday Brunch which is a breakfast for dinner soiree where they are serving breakfast and brunch items with our Michelada, Bourbon Barrel-aged stout and beer-mosas.
Saturday 11/14 – All Day – Join us on Saturday, November 14th, starting at 12 pm to taste your way through some beers we’ve been sitting on, ready for a special occasion.
It’s also going to be the release of our newest BA beer in cans, Event Horizon (12.3% ABV).
For this beer, we lovingly aged our favorite imperial stout in Heaven Hills bourbon barrels for one year and then blended it with Mexican cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla beans, and cacao for an experience that is out of this galaxy. Enjoy it on the event horizon of your life.
Event Horizon Flavor Profile:
Flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, caramelized fruit (figs, plums, and cherries), cinnamon, and vanilla with hints of bourbon coming through in the end.

Michelada Day 11/15 – 12-4 pm – We are closing out beer week with one of our favorites…Michelada Day! That means on Sunday, November 15th from 12-4 pm we will be pouring our famous michelada with different rims and featuring amazing and delicious toppers from TKO Deli! We will also have vendor Mexicanizatearte here offering their beautiful, traditional wares so stop on by for a fun and tasty Sunday!
